1991 Commemorative Ornament

Golden Anniversary of the United States Savings Bonds Program

THA's 1991 ornament depicts an early World War II Savings Bonds poster, featuring Uncle Sam urging citizens to buy bonds to support the American military and naval forces' efforts to bring peace to the world. It also depicts the current U.S. Savings Bonds eagle logo and measures approximately 3-1/4 by 3 inches.

On May 1, 1941, the first Series E Savings Bond was purchased by President Franklin D. Roosevelt from Secretary of the Treasury Henry F. Morganthau, Jr. The sale marked the beginning of the modern Savings Bonds Program. Hundreds of millions of savers and hundreds of billions of dollars worth of bonds later, Savings Bonds remain a safe, convenient way to save.
