1995 Commemorative Ornament

130th Anniversary of the United States Secret Service

THA's 1995 ornament features design themes that relate to Secret Service's principal missions: the greenback" design signifies the role of protecting the Nation's currency system; and, the White House symbolizes the mission of protecting the President of the United States. The ornament measures approximately 2-1/3 by 3-1/4 inches.

On April 14, 1865, the day of his assassination, President Abraham Lincoln approved a proposal of the Secretary of the Treasury to establish a Treasury staff to fight the high incidence of counterfeiting of currency, national bank notes, and securities. As a result of Lincoln's approval, the Secret Service was created in the Department of the Treasury on July 5, 1865.
