2000 Commemorative Ornament

Bicentennial of the First Treasury Building in Washington, DC
And Bicentennial of Washington, DC as the Nation's Capital

THA's ornament for 2000 depicts on one ceramic stone the first Treasury Building from a rare engraving of the early 1800s; on the second stone is an image of the current Treasury Building from an engraving of about 1867. The ornament measures approximately 2-3/4 by 3-1/4 inches.

The first Treasury Building in Washington was the first Federal structure to be finished for the relocation of the Government from Philadelphia to the District of Columbia in 1800.

Following damaging fires to the first Treasury Building, a new Treasury Building was built on the site of the first. With three extensions, today's Treasury Building now occupies two city blocks.
